Shaun Benderson Florida Gators

One would think that since Shaun Benderson is a student at the University of Florida, he would naturally root for the Gators. But the truth is, even before he got into the university, he was already a huge Gators fan; thanks to his dad, an alumnus of the university. Shaun Benderson further mentions that if it weren’t for his dad’s stories about his adventures at university, he might never have considered applying for college admission to the school. But thanks to his dad’s stories of old, he is now a proud Gator who plans to keep the tradition alive when he has his own children.

Gator Sports

The Florida Gators sports programs are considered as among the top college programs across the country. The Gators compete in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

The University’s sports programs have received numerous awards; proof that they indeed are considered as among the best athletic programs in the country. One of the most notable awards they have received is the SEC All-Sports Trophy for best overall sports program; an award that they first received in 1984 and one they’ve received in succeeding years. Shaun Benderson shares that between 1984 and 2017, they have been awarded the SEC All-Sports Trophy a record 27 times!

Another record worth mentioning is how the Florida Gators men’s basketball and football teams both bagged their respective division’s championships in the same year. In 2006, Shaun Benderson shares, the Gators men’s basketball team were hailed as the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament champions and that same year, the Florida Gators football team bagged the BCS National Championship Game title.

Further, and Shaun quotes the Florida Gators official website;

“When Florida won the 2017 NCAA baseball title, it became the sixth Division I program to win a national title in baseball, men’s basketball and football. UF is the only one to win a title in each since 1996.”

For 32 consecutive years, Shaun Benderson proudly boasts that the Florida Gators athletic programs (both men’s and women’s programs) have been ranked among the top ten in the country. As of 2017, they rank 3rd in the NCAA Division I All-Sports Rankings.

Another feat that Shaun can’t help boasting about is how the Gators athletes have been competing in Olympiads since 1972, representing 37 different countries. During the 2016 Rio Olympics, former Florida Gator athletes brought home a total of 13 medals, which includes eight gold medals.

This is only a summary of the long multi-awarded history of the Gators. Shaun Benderson feels that this short snippet doesn’t do justice to what the Gator athletic programs have achieved through the years. With that said, he will be talking more about them in his blog page so please stay tuned for those.
